This hair oil is the first commercial product from the raw-material self-sufficiency project OSAJI Co., Ltd. has pursued since 2018. The company handled production from the raw-material stage, using sunflowers grown on abandoned farmland in Minakami, Gunma, and kuromoji growing wild in local forests.
A hair oil made with two ingredients: sunflower seed oil and kuromoji essential oil
The full ingredient list contains just two ingredients: sunflower seed oil and Lindera umbellata leaf/twig oil. The base oil is pressed from harvested sunflower seeds, and its only fragrance comes from kuromoji essential oil distilled in-house.
According to the official project page, the sunflower seeds are pressed slowly at 30°C or below, then rested at a low temperature to remove waxes. The company describes the formula as light and easy to work through the hair, designed to add shine and manageability. It describes the scent as green and woody, with a fresh leafy note.
For towel-dried or dry hair
Take an appropriate amount in your hands and spread it through towel-dried hair, concentrating on the ends. For dry hair, spread it over your palms first, then work it in with a kneading motion, focusing on the ends.
Because the ingredients are plant-derived, the color and scent may vary or change. The official guidance states that this does not affect use, but advises watching for abnormalities on the skin or scalp and discontinuing use if the product does not suit you.
