The publisher of THE BEAUTREC will hold a photo contest seeking cover works for its beauty industry paper "THE BEAUTREC."
The contest invites hairdressers, barbers, beauticians and creators to submit works that express a total-beauty world fit for the cover of the paper. Through hair and makeup, nails, costumes, and photographic composition, works full of theme and creativity are expected.
"THE BEAUTREC" seeks total-beauty works from the beauty industry
"THE BEAUTREC" is a monthly beauty information paper for beauty professionals active in the hair, esthetic, and nail industries. A digital edition is also published in parallel, and every month it delivers sophisticated information from its own viewpoint, including consumer trends, fashion, marketing, and introductions to the latest items, as well as information on hair and beauty.
According to the publisher, every issue aims for a refined cover that goes beyond total beauty through hair, makeup, and nails to blend in fashion, including costumes and photographic composition.
Entry guidelines and categories
The theme of this contest is free, and the title of each work can also be freely set. Entries must be total-beauty works, including hair and makeup, nails, fashion, and photographic expression, designed with a "THE BEAUTREC" cover in mind.
The entry period is from Wednesday, August 26, 2026 to Wednesday, March 31, 2027.
There are the following two categories.
A. Hairdresser and beautician category: open to hairdressers and beauticians working in salons.
B. Creator category: open to creators of any genre.
Participation is free.
Judges and judging criteria
The judges are photographer Shun Sasaki (SIGNO), fashion stylist Yoshi Miyamasu (SIGNO), and THE BEAUTREC editor-in-chief Mutsuko Takigawa.
There are four judging points.
Theme expression: how well the work fits the concept
Creativity: originality of the hair and makeup, costumes, and presentation
Technical skill: the polish and care of the hair and makeup
Overall completeness: balance, composition, and strength of impression as a "THE BEAUTREC" cover work
Prize money and announcement for each category
The following prize money and bonus awards are prepared for the Grand Prix and the Award of Excellence in each category.
A. Hairdresser and beautician category
Grand Prix: ¥200,000 prize, feature interview in the paper, publication in the print and digital editions
Award of Excellence: ¥50,000 prize, publication in the digital edition
B. Creator category
- Grand Prix: ¥100,000 prize, publication in the digital edition
The winning works are scheduled to be announced in the print and digital editions of "THE BEAUTREC," on The Beautrec's official website, and on related media such as social media.
