On October 9, Boston Shoe Shiner Co., Ltd. announced the opening of "Boston & ReOlds The Okura Tokyo," a shoe shine and shoe care specialty shop. It is located on the 4th floor of The Okura Tokyo Prestige Tower.
The shop offers shoe shining services and also sells shoe care products and leather shoes. It is a newly established spot inside the hotel where you can get advice on caring for your shoes.
A shop that takes over The Okura Tokyo's shoe shine spot
At The Okura Tokyo, shoe shine craftsman Gentaro Inoue had handled shoe shining for many years. The company explains that it is starting a new business as Boston & ReOlds in that same spot.
The services the shop name stands for are shoe shining and shoe care. Because product sales are also offered on site, it can be used not only for in-store care but also as a place to choose care products and leather shoes. Prices for individual services are not included in this announcement.
Yoshihiro Nishigami at the shop on Wednesdays and Thursdays
Shoe shine craftsman Yoshihiro Nishigami will be at the shop every Wednesday and Thursday. According to the company, Mr. Nishigami is a craftsman who took first place at the 2024 shoe shine world championship.
Mr. Nishigami explains that when he was starting out, he traveled from Fukuoka carrying his leather shoes to visit Mr. Inoue. He says he feels a sense of responsibility in taking over the same spot and polishing customers' shoes.
The shop itself is open Tuesday through Friday. Because Mr. Nishigami's days and the shop's operating days differ, you can check each when choosing the day of your visit. The shop is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.
