On October 7, Edinburgh Natural Skincare Japan LLC announced that it will open the first directly operated store in Japan for the natural skincare brand THE EDINBURGH NATURAL SKINCARE CO., born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on Saturday, October 10, 2026, along Daigaku-dori in Kunitachi, Tokyo.
The store will operate for a limited time, until Monday, May 31, 2027. Visitors can try all 8 scents of the signature Hand Cream Bar, try the face serums, and have gifts wrapped (for a fee).
A scent-driven Edinburgh brand that began with soap made at home
The brand's origins lie in handmade soap that founder Tommy Crooks began making at his home in Scotland in 2010. Tommy studied painting at art college and has a career as a guitarist in the post-punk band The Fall. Setting up a stall at the Edinburgh Christmas market was the first step.
Products are still made one by one by hand at a workshop in Prestonpans, near Edinburgh, with a focus on natural-origin ingredients. In 2025, the brand was chosen as an Official Brand Partner of the UK Pavilion at the Osaka-Kansai Expo. In Japan, it has been sold since 2019 through its online store, British fairs at department stores nationwide, and Christmas markets.
All 8 Hand Cream Bar scents and 2 face serums on offer
The signature product is the solid Hand Cream Bar (50g, ¥3,960 each, tax included). Made with cocoa butter, beeswax and coconut oil, it is said to melt into the skin with body heat when glided over the back of the hand. Because it is solid, it can be carried in a bag.
The 8 scents are LUXURY NO.1 (lavender), THE QUEEN BEE (sweet orange), SYMMETRY (jasmine), GOLDEN ROSEWOOD (rosewood), GARDENER'S (ylang-ylang), REVERE (amber), BABY I LOVE YOU (unscented) and HIYORI (honeysuckle and hinoki cypress).
There are 2 face serums (30mL each, ¥9,680 each, tax included), introductory serums to be worked in 2 to 3 drops after cleansing and before toner. The "Symmetry Face Serum" has a scent of rose geranium and jasmine, and the "Eternal Face Serum" has a scent of amber and oud. Both are plant-oil based and are said to smooth the skin with oil-derived moisture. The store also carries body butter, mineral bath salts, botanical perfume oil and more.
A limited-time directly operated store chosen for a Kunitachi chamber of commerce project
According to the company, it has often heard people ask, "Where can I try it?" The Kunitachi store is positioned as a place where visitors can experience the brand's world as if they had visited the flagship store in Edinburgh. The store was selected for the Kunitachi Chamber of Commerce's "Kunitachi Startup & Challenge Project."
Yukari Sakurai, the managing member, explains, "We want this store to be a space where visitors feel as though they are traveling in Edinburgh and shopping. We would be happy if more people could actually pick up and try products made with a focus on natural-origin ingredients."
